Hebrews 2:1-4 | OVERFLOW DAILY

10/14/20 –  “In today’s reading, we see the first of several warnings and encouragements to remain faithful to Jesus. In context, the author provides a warning to pay careful attention to “what you’ve heard” referring to the gospel and not drift away from the truth. It is clear that from there has always been different messages about who Jesus is and what it means to follow Him. Just as God’s messages in the past were twisted or distrusted, so the gospel could be twisted or distrusted even now. As we read, take this as an encouragement to pay careful attention to what is true rather than what sounds good in the moment. We are bombarded with false ideas everyday and we must learn to discern what is true as we pursue deeper trust and faithfulness to Jesus.”

John 11 | OVERFLOW DAILY – Jessica Murrieta

7/22/20 – In today’s reading, John records what is often called “Jesus’ seventh and final sign” in the book of John. In this, we see Jesus raise his friend Lazurus back to physical life after being dead for 4 days. This miracle not only leads many to come to trust and follow Jesus but also causes many of the religious leaders’ hearts to further harden and leads them to finalize their plans to kill him and attempt to squash the momentum of followers that Jesus is drawing to himself. It’s important to note that Jesus is aware that this powerful act of love will ultimately lead him to his inevitable death and resurrection. The ultimate act of love and ultimate sign of Jesus power, authority and authenticity.
