10/14/20 – “In today’s reading, we see the first of several warnings and encouragements to remain faithful to Jesus. In context, the author provides a warning to pay careful attention to “what you’ve heard” referring to the gospel and not drift away from the truth. It is clear that from there has always been different messages about who Jesus is and what it means to follow Him. Just as God’s messages in the past were twisted or distrusted, so the gospel could be twisted or distrusted even now. As we read, take this as an encouragement to pay careful attention to what is true rather than what sounds good in the moment. We are bombarded with false ideas everyday and we must learn to discern what is true as we pursue deeper trust and faithfulness to Jesus.”
