Psalm 147 | OVERFLOW DAILY – Trevor Lawrence

7/12/20 – Today’s reading is a Psalm of Praise. The word praise literally means to outwardly proclaim honor and affection. The people of God would sing or recite these Psalms as worship and to remind one another of who God is and his steadfast love and faithfulness. Notice the many examples the Psalmist gives of God’s faithfulness to the people of Israel as well as analogies pointing to God’s continual involvement in the world through his creative work and provision. For us, as God’s covenantal people in Christ we can meditate on this Psalm as a way of remembering God’s character, goodness and faithfulness to his people. He is worthy of our praise and as the Psalmist proclaims – “may our praise be pleasant and fitting

7/7/20 – “In today’s reading, we are introduced to John the Baptist, the one whose purpose was to prepare the way for Jesus and to point others to trust and follow Him as teacher and LORD! As John shares his message about Jesus, people begin to make claims about who they think Jesus is. As we read, take note of the different names or titles that are assigned to Jesus and what John may be communicating”

John 1v1-18 | OVERFLOW DAILY

7/6/20 – The gospel according to John is just that, John’s eyewitness account of the good news of Jesus. He lays out a presentation of why Jesus is the long awaited Messiah and that true LIFE is found in Him. In today’s reading, he begins with a poem of sorts that references back to the beginning (an obvious parallel to Genesis 1) – and presents a beautiful picture of Jesus as the eternal WORD of God, WORD is the embodiment of someone’s mind and will. Jesus is the ultimate clear embodiment of God and John uses this poem to creatively introduce this reality of who Jesus is.

7/5/20 – Join us as we set aside unhurried time to be with God through the study of scripture and in prayer. This month we are studying the Gospel according to John!

Week 2 of OVERFLOW High School’s – God, Sexuality & Dating Series. *This morning was a combination of teaching and discussion. The discussion was cut out of the recording starting around 27 minutes. We discussed this question – “What is being implicitly or explicitly communicated about human life and value, relationships, and sexuality” through – 1) Instagram 2) The Bachelor 3) Tinder Dating App. The purpose was to practice cultural discernment.
