7/11/20 – In todays reading, we see a royal official, someone of high status and power in the local community who is desperate for his dying son to be healed. He finds Jesus and begs him to heal his son. Jesus’ response is interesting in that he acknowledges that people need signs and miracles to believe. Its difficult to figure out if Jesus is saying this in frustration, sadness or just stating a matter of fact. But either way, the man remains adamant for Jesus to heal his son. And he does. As we read, take note of the man’s request and Jesus’ response including the way in which Jesus heals the boy and ultimate result of that miracle.

John 4:1-42 | OVERFLOW DAILY – Luke Seidman
7/10/20 – In this passage, Jesus encounters a non-Jewish Samaritan woman at a well. At this time, it would be unheard of for a Jewish man to approach a woman like this, someone seen as inferior and even dangerous because of her ethnic background and differing religious beliefs. Jesus cuts through the racial and cultural divide to care for this woman as he offers what he calls “living water”. That is, by trusting and following Jesus she would receive the everlasting love that God freely offers and true satisfying LIFE

7/9/20 – In Today’s reading, Jesus has a discussion with another Rabbi or teacher – named Nicadimus, who acknowledges Jesus as a Rabbi sent by God. Jesus responds by telling Him that Israel needs more than just a good teacher but a new heart and new life all together. That, one must be “born again” to inherit a place in God’s kingdom. Nicodemus is understandably confused but what he doesn’t see is all that Jesus will reveal about Himself ultimately in his death and resurrection.
John 2 | OVERFLOW DAILY – Camryn Hudson
7/8/20 – The book of John is full of accounts of Jesus’ miracles that are ultimately supernatural signs pointing to who Jesus is and what God and his kingdom is like. Today’s reading starts with a glimpse into Jesus’ first public miracle of sorts as he transforms water into wine… YES wine. In 1st century Jewish culture weddings were a time of celebration and an opportunity to celebrate God’s covenantal love for His people. Drinking wine was a special way of celebrating together and also represented God’s goodness and generosity. If it ran out too early, it was bummer for the guests and often shameful for the hosts. This sign is full of symbolism but one a simple sign to take notice of is how it displays Jesus’ abundant generosity and care.
John 1v19-51 | OVERFLOW DAILY – Trevor Lawrence
7/7/20 – “In today’s reading, we are introduced to John the Baptist, the one whose purpose was to prepare the way for Jesus and to point others to trust and follow Him as teacher and LORD! As John shares his message about Jesus, people begin to make claims about who they think Jesus is. As we read, take note of the different names or titles that are assigned to Jesus and what John may be communicating”
John 1v1-18 | OVERFLOW DAILY
7/6/20 – The gospel according to John is just that, John’s eyewitness account of the good news of Jesus. He lays out a presentation of why Jesus is the long awaited Messiah and that true LIFE is found in Him. In today’s reading, he begins with a poem of sorts that references back to the beginning (an obvious parallel to Genesis 1) – and presents a beautiful picture of Jesus as the eternal WORD of God, WORD is the embodiment of someone’s mind and will. Jesus is the ultimate clear embodiment of God and John uses this poem to creatively introduce this reality of who Jesus is.
